- The Sri Lanka Care is proud to sponsor a housing program focused on placing women who have become economic victims of the Tsunami in quality homes.
- In selecting recipients, we have given special consideration and priority to female candidates by reserving 50 out of the proposed 250 new houses in their name.

- Not only are we building houses for these women, SLC has also implemented a program to help these women reclaim their livelihoods.
- By conducting an employment survey in one of our targeted villages, Godagama, SLC was able to identify over 60 women who were self-employed before the Tsunami but lost their tools when the waters came.
- In order to give these women back their livelihoods SLC created a microfinance scheme in the form of a revolving fund.
- The fund provides the necessary tools and materials for the women to start their business and the women are meant to reimburse the fund over a specified time period. This insures constant reinvestment in the fund.
- To date we have distributed 10 machines into the hands of some of Godagama’s neediest women.
